• What is "Motomail"?

Motomail is an internet-based mail system that enables an individual to send a letter electronically through the website, and have a sealed, paper letter delivered to the service-member in Iraq with the unit's regular mail delivery. Using a specialized scanner (locations aboard base still to be determined), you can send hand-written letters or drawings in the same manner. Letters will normally be delivered in 24 hours or less.

• What "Motomail is NOT:

Motomail is NOT a substitute for the regular postal system. You will still be required to utilize the postal system in order to send care packages, photographs, etc.

What do I need in order to use Motomail, and how much does it cost?

• In order to use Motomail, you need:

v Access to a computer with an internet connection
v An E-Mail address
v The service-member's unit name and 5 digit unit number
v There is NO COST to use Motomail

• How do I use Motomail?

After December 1st, the Motomail website will be up and ready to register users. Simply log on to the site and follow the new user registration instructions. Once registered, you can log on and send letters at any time. NOTE: Your time on the site is limited to approximately 15 minutes.
Once you submit the letter you can track its progress. You will be able to track when the letter goes through the motomail server, when it is downloaded to the postal computer in Iraq, and when it is actually printed for delivery with the mail run.
The website will also keep an archive of all letters you submit.

• Will anyone read my mail?

The only person who will be able to see and read your letter is the service-member it is addressed to. The special printer used by the postal office prints the letter, and then automatically folds and seals it. Postal workers will treat the letters with the same care and security as they would any postage-paid mail. If a letter misprints, or jams in the printer, it will be destroyed and a new copy printed.

• User Tips

1. Creative timing can help lessen delivery time. The Postal Office prints Motomail downloads at 0800 (Iraq time) so they can go out with the 0900 mail runs. If you submit your letter by midnight (East Coast time), it could possibly be delivered in a couple of hours.
2. Since your time on the site is limited (approx 15 minutes), it is recommended that you compose your letter in advance using Microsoft Word, etc. Then "cut and paste" the finished letter to the website form. The website accepts all of the common word processing programs. If you do not have any word processing program on the computer you are using, the website has "quick letter writer" available for free download.
